Stolen Marilyn Mural Returns to Floyd’s Diner

Public art featuring Marilyn always seems to cause a stir. Just two weeks ago, a mural by Paul Archer, depicting Marilyn between the sheets (after her 1952 ‘How I Stay in Shape’ layout for Pageant magazine, shot by Andre de Dienes), was stolen from the wall outside Floyd’s Diner on Yates Street in downtown Victoria, in British Columbia, Canada. But as the Times Colonist reports today, the mural has now been found in a nearby alleyway, with only minor damage.

UPDATE: The section of the Floyd’s Diner mural depicting Marilyn’s face was stolen for a second time in 2015 – and again resurfaced, as noted in the Times Colonist. Then in 2019, Paul Archer created another Marilyn mural after the diner relocated to Menzies Street. The new mural is inspired by Frank Powolny’s ‘Miss N.A.S. San Diego‘ pin-up session with Marilyn, also from 1952 (see here.)
